Aircraft Crash Site 

Wellington R1465

Crashed 6TH July 1942

 

The aircraft crashed on the 6th July 1942, at approximately 740m on Waun Rudd.

Whilst on a cross country flight it descended in heavy cloud to pinpoint a position, hitting the top of Waun Rydd at high speed.

The crew of 5 Canadians were killed in the crash and are now buried at Hereford

 

Based at RAF Wellesbourne Mountford in Warwickshire, the Wellington R1465 operational training unit 22, ran to ground on Waun Rydd.

It is thought that due to heavy cloud the pilot descended to fix his position and hit the summit.

All of the Canadian crew aboard were killed, and buried at Hereford cemetery.
