Aircraft Crash Site 

Proctor NP216

Crashed 12th January 1945

 

On the 12th of January 1945 during World War 2, the Proctor crashed onto Corn Du at approximately 750m.

 

The reason for the flight was a wireless telegraphy exercise.

The pilot F/LT E P Thomas the son of a Nigerian prince was killed, A few pieces of wreckage remain but most was removed.

 

The Percival Proctor NP216, took off from RAF Madley with the son of a Nigerian prince F/LT E P Thomas as the pilot, and a trainee AC second class Frank Stokes.

The pilot was killed, but stokes survived and descended the mountain to the Storey Arms to seek help, small amounts of wreckage remain bur are difficult to find as most of the wreckage was removed.

The wreckage, or what remains of it lies on Buwlch Duwynt just under the imposing face of Corn Du.

 

The starting point for this site is from the Storey Arms car park, and heading up the defined pathway to Pen Y Fan.

Just as you get to the foot of Corn Du, about face, looking down across Buwlch Duwynt and across to the site.
